"It is not wise to make such statements when the election process is in UP," Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar told reporters on the sidelines of a function here to announce the launch of the 'Year of horticulture'.
Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing, was asked about the Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma making statements on reservations for Muslims in the OBC quota after Law Minister Salman Khurshid.
Asked if he supported Trinamool Congress, another ally of the UPA, approaching the Election Commission demanding the "debarring" of Verma from the state, Pawar did not make any comments.
The NCP chief said that he will make a detailed statement on the subject just after the election process is over.
Verma said at an election rally in Farrukhabad having Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid "of reservation for Muslims has increased and if the EC wants, it can now issue a notice to me. "
